I can't count the number of times I have either used the library or met somebody there using the library to send an email or look something up on Google. I've personally enjoyed and been educated by lectures, displays, concerts, music and art classes. I go to the library for shelter in the rain, to cool off in the hot summer or warm up in the winter. My children have gone to story hours and picked books to take home and read together. The library attracts all ages, rich and poor, residence and tourists equally. We need free libraries with... My first trip to The Santee Library was when I was eight years old. I remember falling in love with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. These books lead me to be the voracious reader of books that I am today. In fact, reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired me to write a play based on it in college. In addition, to inspiring me in my youth. The library gave me a great sense of community with the its bookclubs. Due to the library's bookclubs, I read many books that were out of... Continue reading

There is a unique, fuzzy feeling of sensation it brings to me, personally, as soon as I am entering this one-of-a-kind place. I consider the library a special place to be. Whether it is from going to find a quiet space to do homework, finding information, studying, reading a new book just for fun, printing and making copies, the library cannot compare to a home or school environment. Time for "quiet space" at home or after school studying in class tend to have some distractions and cannot fully concentrate on my homework. To me, being at the library helps me... Continue reading

    Children's Books

    By Sharon

    Lakeside Branch

My grandsons moved and live on the east coast now. I can borrow children's books from the library and then read to them over Marco Polo. I don't need to buy books to maintain this wonderful connection with them. As a senior, I don't want to add more books to my collection nor do I want to buy books that I may only read once to them. It's marvelous!

Also, for me as a Kindle reader, I use Libby constantly which saves me money and allows me to read 70 books a year. It's... Continue reading

My kids go to the library since they were little…They have been building their imagination, creativity and the way of enjoying life in a simple and meaningful way because of the connection that they have with the library. Many events, magician shows, read a thon, face painting, classes, programs, resource or just the welcoming smile of a staff member. I truly believe that my kids love to use their imagination, that they love to create, and they also love to explore just because the library has been part of their lives. We have done picnics in the surrounding of the... Continue reading

Every few weeks, I use the SDCL app to place holds on 20-30 books to read to my toddler. We go pick them up together and as soon as we get home, she wants to read them ALL! I’m so thankful for the staff at the Vista Library who help bring the world to my family through books! My child is growing a love for reading, learning, and using her imagination. She’s seeing so much of the world through the eyes of every storyteller, and imagining all the possibilities for her future. We make sure to check out books about... Continue reading

    Lost Without You

Books have always been a very important part of my life and growing up in a family with humble means meant that the Library was my treasure chest. The stories in the books I read as a child open my mind to a world of wonder and imagination. The characters in my favorite stories were friends who never let me down or hurt me in my teen years. And as an adult, they inspired me to seek out my own adventures and create my own stories. And now they are, the only means I have to see the world. Chronic... Continue reading

The Library is one of the last sacred institutions in America. A place to get things done. A place to learn. A place to meet new people. A place of warmth and community. RIP Ms.Terry. We love you.

I thank all of the employees and people that have made the library happen. You are doing God's work, one of the best uses of your time and it does not go unnoticed.

    We Need The Library

by LaTanya , about 1 month ago
We need our library to have a quiet place to enjoy reading books. We use our library for a social place to participate in activities. We like to print and make documents. We create circles for families with children come to enjoy and love. I like to just sit, and think or just enjoy the time. I like seeing new videos to watch and magazines. Thanks for the new libraries throughout the communities.

Some people will pass by the library building and they won’t feel any connection! That’s not what I experience when I pass by El Cajon branch library! It brings a lot of memories; perfect studying environment, quite rich resources, helpful friendly staff. It’s the only place that was available for me and many others to do our independent study program and prepare for board exams! A big thanks for everyone helping out to keep this facility running.
