Lost Without You

Books have always been a very important part of my life and growing up in a family with humble means meant that the Library was my treasure chest. The stories in the books I read as a child open my mind to a world of wonder and imagination. The characters in my favorite stories were friends who never let me down or hurt me in my teen years. And as an adult, they inspired me to seek out my own adventures and create my own stories. And now they are, the only means I have to see the world. Chronic illness has taken my ability to travel or even be out and about with other people, but even when my illness took away my ability to go to the library in person and hold books and turn pages with my hands, the overdrive and Libby apps have allowed me to continue to escape to 1 million different worlds and make hundreds of friends. Books occupy my mind and keep me focused on things other than my pain and I would be lost without them. So thank you to everyone who keeps our libraries open. You were holding the door open to a world that would otherwise be lost to me.
