The Library is the Community Safe Space
by Mary M., about 1 month agoGrowing up with immigrant parents, the Downtown Central Library as well as the local library in City Heights was where my parents took my sister and I often to roam around in and explore. In the beginning it felt like we just needed a place to go to pass time but it became our weekend ritual. I remember the old Central library in downtown San Diego and the steps that we would climb to get from the first floor to the kids books department. It also became a safe place for my parents, especially my dad, to feel like he... Continue reading -

Homeschooling Resource
by Dani M, about 1 month agoWe love our local library. It is so useful when we are in need of new books for our homeschool curriculum. All the people that work at the library are always so kind and helpful. Sometimes it could seem overwhelming looking for a book, since there are SO many, but the library workers are always there to show you exactly where the books you need are at.We wouldn't be able to be as successful as we are with our homeschooling journey if it wasn't for local libraries.

Reading increase
by Rance, about 1 month agoThree years ago at age 73 I retired and suddenly found myself bored with nothing to do. I joined multiple libraries and found that I enjoyed reading and now had access to many books that I could read. It was a lifesaver for my mental health as I hardly ever read during my working years. I have increased my reading skills many hundreds %. Thank you libraries for having multiple genres to choose from. -

Community Center
by Beatriz, about 1 month agoWe have moved a lot around the state and libraries have always been the first places we go to in order to find community. As a new mom in San Diego, my local library (the Poway Branch), has been an invaluable resource to helping me start to connect with other moms in my area. It is a place where I can bring my baby and find engaging activities for him and for me as well. Library programming has been so important for my mental well being. -

My kids know what a library is- what a resource
by Roxie, about 1 month agoI started taking my kids to the library when they were little. I wanted them to know they could get familiar and comfortable finding books of their interest. Also other information for help, like homework, ordering books that might not be there but they could get eventually. I stopped buying so many books and taught them we don’t have to fill up at home and could use, return, and come back for more. Even barrow the same books later on if we wanted. It’s been so much fun for them and me to see them growing and learning with the... Continue reading -

SD country libraries helped me go through a break-up in 2017. I traveled to many libraries from RB to Encinitas to La mesa to vista etc. This picture was taken at the RB branch. I highly recommend visiting any library when you’re feeling sad! These days you will catch me at the Vista library!

A Restful Moment
by Autumn Haes, about 1 month agoLibraries is always a place where I could step away from the outside world and be lost in another one full of stories, knowledge, and most of all, a restful sanctuary. So many of my favorite movies, books, music, all of which that have garnered a specific part of me, wasn't because of Blockbuster or Barnes & Nobles bor Borders.
It was the library that remained open to all and showed endless possibilities of something new I’d otherwise would never have known about.Whether it was discovering the absolute majesty that was Jim Henson's Labyrinth that was tucked away in... Continue reading

by Case capital, about 1 month agoIt is important for everyone to have free books available, in order to provide everyone with the opportunity to have access to information. All free and open societies require free access to all information and ideas and points of view. -

A dream come true
by Sequoia, about 1 month agoHonestly, I think about how much I appreciate libraries all the time. As a homeschooling parent, the library is our go to for the majority of our lesson plans! I love that there is something for everyone there. I love having the opportunity to find new books (movies & music too!) I wouldn’t otherwise know about. And there are so many wonderful programs offered, for all ages. My great grandma has slowed down a lot after the covid pandemic since she stopped going to the gym during that time. Now she looks forward to coming to the fun & fitness... Continue reading
