We love our local library and Mr. Jeremy too!
by Mercedes, about 1 month ago
We love our local library! When the kids were small we went to Mr. Jeremy's story time and so did everyone else. The room was packed and lots of "ROARING!!!" going on a certain book. Lots of smiles and ABC's. It was a great way to help the littles socialize and prepare them for preschool. When they got bigger the library rented us movies, let us make crafts that are still with us. We made tie-dye shirts, bags, decorated mugs and learned how to paint. Now they are even bigger, and we love the library for gaming activities and ebooks... Continue reading

A Life-long Love
by Louise, about 1 month agoWhen I was a child, my mom would bring me to the local library, which had a summer reading program that I loved. After finishing a book, we would go back to the library. I would sit next to the librarian and tell her the story of the book I had read. Each child in the program had a colorful construction paper list up on the library wall, and one by one, the titles of the books I had read were added to my list. I was so happy to see my list getting longer and longer.
As I think... Continue reading

At the Heart of Matters: The Library
by R. To , about 1 month agoIn San Diego, I frequented the Rancho Penasquitos branch. I took out books, used media, swapped stories with the head librarian, and even taught English as Second Language (ESL) on behalf of Palomar College before CovID.
You see, the library, all libraries have been a place where the heart of matters count. It’s where people gather, friendships form and stories matter, real or imaginary. If you want to dream, if you need advice, if you want current news, if you need technology, sitting in a comfy chair or study table is being in another world.
Most times the library is... Continue reading -

A Wonderful Resource!
by JohnD, about 1 month agoI have always loved libraries and visiting the local San Diego County’s libraries is one of my favorite things to do. They are clean, quiet and relaxing.
I also appreciate the ability to use digital version of books and magazines. Having this service available has opened up so many new choices of material that I would likely never get a chance to read. Thank you for this!
i am not a big fan of television, but am very appreciative of the ability to check out DVDs, especially new movies.
A story.
I have had the same SD County library card... Continue reading -

I could not possibly afford all the books I want to read
by Chelsey, about 1 month agoMy closest branch was (I moved from San Diego a year ago but may move back in a few more years) the Pacific Beach branch, but I would regularly visit the Central Library for events and browsing.
I'm a very frugal person. After joining my first book club 10 years ago, I realized quickly that I didn't want to spend $15–25 every month on a new book that I may or may not like enough to keep. I was a recent graduate, without access to an enormous university library anymore. That's when I first turned to the public library. I... Continue reading

Every story counts and so does yours
by Nan, about 1 month agoWhen I was a child, my mother used to take my sibling and me to the library. It was one of the few places where we felt safe and free to nurture our curiosity. My family navigated many challenging and uncertain moments, and knowing that our local library was a place we could return to, a place that felt like home, made bearing those times a little easier.
Now, as I enter a new chapter in my leadership journey, I am excited to deepen my service to community. When I am ready to run for the U.S. presidency, I will... Continue reading

A Place To Grow Together: For Everyone
by Kbarnett92, about 1 month agoSan Diego County Libraries have been a constant source of stability throughout my life. When my family had limited resources, the Carlsbad libraries became a quiet refuge where I could focus, learn, and imagine a bigger future. Books opened doors, computers kept me on track, and the library became a place where I felt supported. Years later, that same sense of safety continues at the Fallbrook Library, where the little humans in my life curl up with books and grow as readers. Across every stage of my life, San Diego County Libraries have remained a place of belonging, growth, and... Continue reading

Community connection
by Nyasani, about 1 month agoThe first card I get whenever I move to a place is my library card. To both connect with my community and make use of the available resources (looking for work, places to live, books, periodicals, a quiet place to read, connecting with fellow community members from librarians, security guards, and even strangers! I love people and talking with them) Libraries are imperative for any community for a myriad of reasons (I’d have to write a book to expound on this fact! 😅) personally for me for my mental health as reading is not only important but is my number... Birthday Book
by Bryanna, about 1 month agoGrowing up in my hometown, my favorite part of the neighborhood was being just down the street from the library. I adored visiting the library, and it became even more special thanks to a unique program that sent me a new book every birthday. My absolute favorite was “Dinorella,” a delightful dinosaur version of Cinderella, and it filled me with joy and wonder.
As I moved on to college and grad school, libraries continued to be a sanctuary. They offered a peaceful refuge amidst the busyness of student life and a space to connect with peers. Whether it was studying... Continue reading
