At the Heart of Matters: The Library

In San Diego, I frequented the Rancho Penasquitos branch. I took out books, used media, swapped stories with the head librarian, and even taught English as Second Language (ESL) on behalf of Palomar College before CovID.

You see, the library, all libraries have been a place where the heart of matters count. It’s where people gather, friendships form and stories matter, real or imaginary. If you want to dream, if you need advice, if you want current news, if you need technology, sitting in a comfy chair or study table is being in another world.

Most times the library is quiet (at times a busy noisy), nonetheless the library is an essential part of my life. No matter where I’ve lived, I’ve sought out the community and city library.

I still remember back in the days when “the bookmobile” would drive to places when a library wasn’t accessible. Imagine climbing onto a large bus converted into a traveling library, so that every child or young person had access. I miss when the library when days & times were more available and there weren’t cutbacks.

So hold the library close to your heart because that is where the heart of matters lie, where it’s comfortable or challenging to learn about life and people from the stories you read and listen to.
