A Library Close to My Heart (4S Ranch San Diego County Library )

The library is an important part of my life, both as an educator and as a parent. As a teacher, I regularly visit the library to find books for my classroom stories that spark curiosity, support learning, and help children see themselves in what they read. I also gain inspiration from library story times, learning new ways to engage children through storytelling, songs, and activities that I bring back to my class.

As a parent, the library is a place I always visit with my kids. It’s where we spend time together choosing books, listening to stories, and building a... Continue reading

We're so glad to have access to all of the books, DVDs, materials, and LINK to get books outside of our systems. It is one of the BEST uses of our taxpayer money. The Librarians and staff are always so welcoming, helpful, and kind. Please increase funding for the libraries!

The library has always been a steady, familiar place in my life. As a kid, it was where I went to find books that went beyond what my school had on its shelves, and where friends and I met to work on school projects or play chess after class. It was also where I was first introduced to parts of the internet by friends, and where access to a computer or a printer made a real difference when I needed it.
In college, the library became something quieter and more intentional, a place to focus, think, and get work done... Continue reading

The library has helped me gain strength from anxiety and OCD. As part of my exposure therapy, I had been encouraged to go outside my house to a place I feel safe but also pushes me outside my comfort zone. To motivate myself, I had developed a routine: I request a book through the app, which gives me a reason to get out of my house and go get it. The first time doing this was so scary for me, but overtime the comfortability of the library gave me motivation to go back. I first started this exposure treatment 3... Continue reading

I like the library's system of requests. For example, if there is a book that is not in your local library, you can still order or request it and it will be transferred from another library to my local place so I can pick it up.

I love Logan high library because it has a specific sections that celebrate or highlights a theme. For example they have a separate/isolated section about human trafficking with so many resources and books. That way I can just go and pick any instead of going to the shelves and getting lost with the alphabetization... Continue reading

Generational Third Spaces in our Community

by Nina Ni, about 2 months ago
The library is sometimes my family's only third space. As someone who grew up in poverty as a first generation American in an immigrant household, there were no trips to Disney, schools were closed during the summer, and depending on the weather parks, beaches, or the mall were not always the easiest to weather a storm for. Libraries were where my younger brother could access free WI-Fi, libraries were where my mom was able to access free resources to careers, adult school, and health related information, and I could meet up with my friends to read, hang out, participate in... The library has been a resource I have enjoyed since I was a kid. I have so many fond memories of family trips to the library with my siblings--even taking the public transportation to the library together as we got older, just to peruse the shelves and collect our own stack of reading material. Librarians are quiet heros--able to direct people of all ages to materials that can help better their lives. As an adult I use the library for occasional community events, checking out books, etc.

My visits to San Marcos Public Library

by Neena , about 2 months ago
I enjoy visiting the San Marcos library about twice a month. I usually picks up books or movies I have requested online that are ready for pick up. While I am there, I may also look at some of the carousels of books on display on any variety of topics. Sometimes, I might use a computer to look up a topic of interest to see if there is anything of interest on the shelf.

What I like most about the library is the ability to request books and other items online, and also renew items online. Also, I like that... Continue reading

A quality place to relax and spend a few hours

by Mel H, about 2 months ago
One afternoon I was out with my family including my two children ages 8 and 10. We had been out for lunch and found ourselves with some time to kill until our evening appointment yet were too far from home to go home and drive back. We all needed a place to relax for an hour or so and didn't want to go to a cafe and eat or spend money anywhere else. We ended up at the local library there, which we had never been to since we live far from there. It was so nice to explore and... Continue reading
