by Veda, 3 months agoThe library is an important part of my life, both as an educator and as a parent. As a teacher, I regularly visit the library to find books for my classroom stories that spark curiosity, support learning, and help children see themselves in what they read. I also gain inspiration from library story times, learning new ways to engage children through storytelling, songs, and activities that I bring back to my class.

As a parent, the library is a place I always visit with my kids. It’s where we spend time together choosing books, listening to stories, and building a love for reading. These visits have become meaningful family moments that encourage curiosity, imagination, and connection.
To me, the library is more than a place to borrow books. It is a shared community space that supports learning, creativity, and togetherness- for educators, families, and children alike.

by Kim, 3 months agoWe're so glad to have access to all of the books, DVDs, materials, and LINK to get books outside of our systems. It is one of the BEST uses of our taxpayer money. The Librarians and staff are always so welcoming, helpful, and kind. Please increase funding for the libraries!

by Robert G., 3 months agoThe library has always been a steady, familiar place in my life. As a kid, it was where I went to find books that went beyond what my school had on its shelves, and where friends and I met to work on school projects or play chess after class. It was also where I was first introduced to parts of the internet by friends, and where access to a computer or a printer made a real difference when I needed it.In college, the library became something quieter and more intentional, a place to focus, think, and get work done... It was also where I was first introduced to parts of the internet by friends, and where access to a computer or a printer made a real difference when I needed it.In college, the library became something quieter and more intentional, a place to focus, think, and get work done without distraction. That sense of calm and purpose is something I’ve carried with me into adulthood. Now, I find myself returning in a different way. Sometimes it’s to drop off books I’ve picked up and want to pass along to my community. Other times, it’s simply to stop by, occasionally joining a friend who makes the most of the library’s local events and offerings. It’s a reminder that libraries aren’t just about books or resources, but about shared spaces that adapt with you over time, quietly supporting each stage of life. -

by sweetsockmonkey, 3 months agoThe library has helped me gain strength from anxiety and OCD. As part of my exposure therapy, I had been encouraged to go outside my house to a place I feel safe but also pushes me outside my comfort zone. To motivate myself, I had developed a routine: I request a book through the app, which gives me a reason to get out of my house and go get it. The first time doing this was so scary for me, but overtime the comfortability of the library gave me motivation to go back. I first started this exposure treatment 3... Continue reading

Whimsical Place
by Katerin Figueroa R., 3 months agoI like the library's system of requests. For example, if there is a book that is not in your local library, you can still order or request it and it will be transferred from another library to my local place so I can pick it up.

For example they have a separate/isolated section about human trafficking with so many resources and books. I love Logan high library because it has a specific sections that celebrate or highlights a theme. For example they have a separate/isolated section about human trafficking with so many resources and books. That way I can just go and pick any instead of going to the shelves and getting lost with the alphabetization. And also there is another section where they rotate and make a separate table base on special occasions, such as black history or Hispanic heritage month and in that table it highlights the books suggested to read. I love the private rooms, they are perfect for studying and have a good amount of time of reservation so other people can use them as well. I also love the amount of renewable of books and the warning they sent when its time to return them. The only thing I dislike is that most of the libraries are closed on Sunday. But I love libraries, for people like me that can't afford to buy many books, libraries fulfill that necessity and fuels my curiosity and intellectual growth.
Thank you.

Generational Third Spaces in our Community
by Nina Ni, 3 months agoThe library is sometimes my family's only third space. As someone who grew up in poverty as a first generation American in an immigrant household, there were no trips to Disney, schools were closed during the summer, and depending on the weather parks, beaches, or the mall were not always the easiest to weather a storm for. Libraries were where my younger brother could access free WI-Fi, libraries were where my mom was able to access free resources to careers, adult school, and health related information, and I could meet up with my friends to read, hang out, participate in... As someone who grew up in poverty as a first generation American in an immigrant household, there were no trips to Disney, schools were closed during the summer, and depending on the weather parks, beaches, or the mall were not always the easiest to weather a storm for. Libraries were where my younger brother could access free WI-Fi, libraries were where my mom was able to access free resources to careers, adult school, and health related information, and I could meet up with my friends to read, hang out, participate in an activity, finish school projects, or just get out of the rain or severe heat. Libraries are more than just a place to read. Now as a mom, raising my own two children, libraries have become an even greater place of community for me. They are a place of events, from story time crafts to cultural immersion, and a place to develop new skills and meet new friends from Chess, Lego, and video game clubs, to ballet classes, the coloring sheets and crayons provided, scavenger hunts, and partnerships with our recreation centers and other local community groups. Libraries are our third spaces to meet with people in our community, form relationships, and gather in a safe space. Libraries, here in San Diego, have helped me weather many storms, and that is why the library matters most to me. They were my family's trips to Disneyland even after we built the means to go. -

Free Resources to the Community
by Kaitlin , 3 months agoThe library has been a resource I have enjoyed since I was a kid. I have so many fond memories of family trips to the library with my siblings--even taking the public transportation to the library together as we got older, just to peruse the shelves and collect our own stack of reading material. Librarians are quiet heros--able to direct people of all ages to materials that can help better their lives. As an adult I use the library for occasional community events, checking out books, etc.The library has been a resource I have enjoyed since I was a kid. My visits to San Marcos Public Library
by Neena , 3 months agoI enjoy visiting the San Marcos library about twice a month. I usually picks up books or movies I have requested online that are ready for pick up. While I am there, I may also look at some of the carousels of books on display on any variety of topics. Sometimes, I might use a computer to look up a topic of interest to see if there is anything of interest on the shelf.

What I like most about the library is the ability to request books and other items online, and also renew items online. Also, I like that they offer new movies on dvd, as well as recent best sellers. And I have found that much of what I am interested in can be found at one of the branches, so it’s rare that I have to purchase a book elsewhere, that I’m probably only going to read once.
I also like the little Friends of San Marcos Library used book store, where i often donate items I no longer need, or once in awhile, grab something that looks interesting, for less than a dollar.
I am so glad to have a public library close to my home that I can enjoy. -

A quality place to relax and spend a few hours
by Mel H, 3 months agoOne afternoon I was out with my family including my two children ages 8 and 10. We had been out for lunch and found ourselves with some time to kill until our evening appointment yet were too far from home to go home and drive back. We all needed a place to relax for an hour or so and didn't want to go to a cafe and eat or spend money anywhere else. We had been out for lunch and found ourselves with some time to kill until our evening appointment yet were too far from home to go home and drive back. We all needed a place to relax for an hour or so and didn't want to go to a cafe and eat or spend money anywhere else. We ended up at the local library there, which we had never been to since we live far from there. It was so nice to explore and it ended up being such a lovely afternoon. We could recharge with some downtime and while doing an educational activity. It was a summer day so it was nice to get out of the heat and it was free! I think people often overlook the library as a place to hang out, but it is such a lovely place to spend some time and relax. There are so few places these days where one can just go without having to spend money and we are so fortunate to have libraries in our community that create such lovely spaces for the public and are educational. To me, it doesn't get much better than that! Thank you for doing what you do!
