Free Resources to the Community

The library has been a resource I have enjoyed since I was a kid. I have so many fond memories of family trips to the library with my siblings--even taking the public transportation to the library together as we got older, just to peruse the shelves and collect our own stack of reading material. Librarians are quiet heros--able to direct people of all ages to materials that can help better their lives. As an adult I use the library for occasional community events, checking out books, etc.

My visits to San Marcos Public Library

I enjoy visiting the San Marcos library about twice a month. I usually picks up books or movies I have requested online that are ready for pick up. While I am there, I may also look at some of the carousels of books on display on any variety of topics. Sometimes, I might use a computer to look up a topic of interest to see if there is anything of interest on the shelf. Generational Third Spaces in our Community

The library is sometimes my family's only third space. As someone who grew up in poverty as a first generation American in an immigrant household, there were no trips to Disney, schools were closed during the summer, and depending on the weather parks, beaches, or the mall were not always the easiest to weather a storm for. Libraries were where my younger brother could access free WI-Fi, libraries were where my mom was able to access free resources to careers, adult school, and health related information, and I could meet up with my friends to read, hang out, participate in…
