    The Heart of our Community

Over the 14 years I have lived in Poway I have used the Poway Library for many different purposes. I used their baby and toddler story times to meet other parents and allow my children to socialize, while developing a true love for books. I have used their community rooms to hold math club meetings for elementary students. My children have always looked forward to their summer programs and buying used books from their little bookstore. We love our Library. We find it as a great resource in our community.

I am at the library several times a week, all over the county. I am a single mom that works primarily remotely. I prefer to work around others and focus best at the library. I also can bring my daughter with me and she finds other kids to socialize with, tons of books to read, and engaging programs on the computer. I like to attend library programs like arts and crafts, Lego club, and holiday events. Sometimes when I just don't know where to go, and I don't want to be at home alone, I go to the library and... SDCL has been part of my life since I was a child, going to the library with my mother and siblings and picking out new books to read, movies to watch, at one point video games to play. I never thought it would have such a huge impact on me, reviving my love for reading, volunteer work igniting my love and devotion to libraries. I get to work with so many people from different backgrounds than my own and give back to a community that shaped me into who I am today.
libraries are the corner stones of any society... Continue reading

    Hello!

I love going to libraries. I like working there in the quiet, having my books checked out, and taking advantage of the crafting room. My boyfriend and I also LOVE doing Swing Dance Under the Dome. I was devastated to hear the new time hours because I know people rely on it. My mom would take my siblings and me to the library all the time. We were excited because we liked going. She was excited because it gave her some peace and quiet. She also loves reading, too though. Libraries are such a privilege and wonderful asset to... Continue reading

My name is Destiny McMillen and we most often go to the San Diego library in La Mesa on Allison. Our family of 5 love coming to the library to pick out our books for the week. We like picking books from all different categories such as books about nature, science, history, social justice, fantasy, and instructional books. My 8 year old loves books about folklore from different cultures and graphic novel. My 5 year old special needs child loves picking books with textures and flaps. And our 9 year old likes picking biographies and books about different important historical... Continue reading

    Moving to North County (Encinitas)

We recently moved from Canada, where there is a strong culture of support for public services, and we’ve been happy to see a similar commitment here through the many public library branches across different cities—several of which we’ve had the chance to visit. We’ve participated in a variety of library programs, including reading with dogs, seasonal reading challenges, and a drumming circle. Through these experiences, the library has helped us feel more connected to our community and to the city we now call home.
