by nikkir, 3 months agothe library is one of my favorite places in the whole world! i've been an avid reader since childhood and i can't imagine how many rooms i'd have to fill (and how expensive it would be!) to obtain all the books i have read and wish to read. the library is an enormous boon to society, to education, to creativity, and to our world. i love our libraries and librarians!the library is one of my favorite places in the whole world! i've been an avid reader since childhood and i can't imagine how many rooms i'd have to fill (and how expensive it would be!) to obtain all the books i have read and wish to read. the library is an enormous boon to society, to education, to creativity, and to our world. i love our libraries and librarians! -

by Michelle, Ramona & Poway Branches, 3 months agoLet's start with the fact that I love the library... When our girls were little it was a resource for books, classes, and a quiet space to do homework between after-school events. Our girls have grown up and they aren't local anymore, but the San Diego Library instilled a love of libraries in them and they immediately joined their local libraries in their new cities.I still use the library every week. One of the best libraries I have ever visited
by I. Kapilani, 3 months agoI live in Valley Center and frequent the Valley Center Library often. It is beautiful with its paranoramic views, comfortable with its strategically positioned tables and chairs, some being lounge chairs next to a non-functioning fireplace. The staff is very helpful and welcoming, and the patrons are well-behaved and respectful (lol). This library offers a host of programs and activities for both adults and children that I do not really participate in. But I love how books that I request online are always found right where they should be. You can even print a certain number of pages at the... Continue reading

It's a great place, with nice people, in a great location. I will eventually develop a routine schedule there to begin writing my novel-- it is such an inspiring spot. Only wish it were open more hours and perhaps days!

by TickTack, 3 months agoI love listening to e-audiobooks while driving to and from work. Iām usually too busy to sit down and read, but this lets me finish a lot of books. I also borrow many picture books for my child. The library is incredibly generous with how many books we can borrow and how long we can keep them.

It was invaluable to find a group of parents going through similar things to vent with, ask questions, and have playdates. I appreciate what the library did for my family! The library helped my children develop a love of reading and books, and helped grow their social skills. I believe that the weekly Storytimes had a huge impact on their pre-school and kindergarten preparedness. Thank you SDCL! -

š my SDCL audiobooks
by Bunny, 3 months agoI am dyslexic, which means I read really slowly. So it takes me a long time to get through books, which means I would only get through a few books a year. I still read a book at night before bed because it makes me tired. I love the fact that SDCL has a large audiobook collection, which has made such a difference in my life. Because of this, I can enjoy many more books. I recently listened to a science article that talked about how listening to books actually lights up the same areas of the brain as reading... Because of this, I can enjoy many more books. I recently listened to a science article that talked about how listening to books actually lights up the same areas of the brain as reading books. So those of you who are snobbish about audiobooks not being the same as reading, science has proven differently. The plus side of audiobooks is that I can do mundane things like fold laundry, clean, or weed the backyard while listening to a book, which makes these tasks more enjoyable. Also, I am on a limited budget and can't afford to pay for an audiobook subscription. Thank you, SDCL, for the big & growing audiobook collection!!!

We love the San Diego Country Library
by Alexis, 3 months ago
Hello!
This is Alexis, and I currently live in El Cajon. We usually go to this branch; however, we have also been to La Mesa and Santee libraries. We love the El Cajon branch for many reasons. One of them is the staff's friendliness and helpfulness. They have a great selection of children's books, and my 3-year-old loves playing in the kids' section with the toy kitchen, building blocks, and dollhouse. She really enjoys her time there. She loves it when we read, too. Therefore, we check out lots of books every time we go. She's really into ballet now... Continue reading

She loves it when we read, too. Therefore, we check out lots of books every time we go. She's really into ballet now, and we discovered a great selection of ballet books for kids, such as The Very Young Person's Guide to Ballet Music. I usually go on Tuesdays or Wednesdays because they close at 7 pm, and I quit work at 5 pm. We also go on the weekends. My 12-year-old likes manga, and they have all her favorites.
The Santee branch is really nice as well, and has a bigger selection for adult readers. The children's section is a bit smaller, but it offers amazing learning resources for toddlers, such as magnetic mazes. My daughter also loves sitting on the sofa with me to read.
Another thing I love about the San Diego County Library is the opportunity to borrow books from Libby and download them to my Kindle. There is an ample selection of ebooks and audiobooks. If you have the Libby app and place books on hold, it notifies you when they become available. Additionally, if you don't remember your due date, the system automatically returns it, helping you avoid late fees.
You can also get free passes to a variety of museums through your SDCL card. I was able to visit The New Children's Museum for free, thanks to Discover & Go. I just can't express how grateful I am for having all of these resources. Thank you from my family and me!

Rural access to resources and community
by Catmom, 3 months agoLiving intergenerationally and providing light caregiving for my elderly parent, I deeply appreciate having access to my local library. As a rural North County resident, I love having a welcoming space where I can regroup, learn, and relax. It's a great free and safe 'third space' where I can read a magazine, do some writing, or enjoy the surroundings. The Valley Center library staff are so kind and knowledgeable.I love connecting with all San Diego County libraries and have attended community events (meet the author, arts/creative economy workshops, etc) at the Encinitas branch, too.

by Alyssa, 3 months agoThe library has been an invaluable resource for me as a writer. I have often used the library as a space for me to go to be free of distractions when writing. This past year, I spent countless hours at the Vista location poring over nineteenth-century encyclopedias that were available for in-library use only. And when the physical location did not have what I needed to continue my niche research, I was able to access the information I needed through the Link+ catalogue. If it were not for the SDCL, the characters in my novel would not have the charm and life that they do.
