My library is a place where I can go without judgement and just "be". I get to browse the stacks, sit in front of a window and just unwind. I have signed up for book clubs and met people I would never meet otherwise. Libaries aren't just books, they are a place where I get to see people of all ages interact and have conversations that create more trust among neighbors.

I love the library! It is one of the last places where people aren't obligated to to purchase anything. It's a place you can freely read, learn, and explore vast fictional worlds. Recently I borrowed cook books I wouldn't have be to have access too. I learned how to make focaccia!

I’m a busy mom who loves to read and I’m so thankful for librarians who help me find my books and put them on a shelf so I can pick them up without any hassle. I don’t just have one library. I have 33 libraries with stories in multiple formats for my kids and I to enjoy.

every time we go into the library, there’s always a scavenger hunt for kids and some sort of engaging activity that we can find to do. Our Point Loma library has its own ship and periscope and we feel the magic every time... Continue reading

I work at the San Diego County Library, Spring Valley Branch. I know that our customers who live in our underserved community appreciate the access to all the services we provide. Not only do we have books and other materials to check out, we offer public PCs, including laptops, to use for reference, schoolwork, entertainment, or just browsing the internet. We also provide a safe, welcoming environment for our elementary and middle school students, who enjoy our afternoon crafts and other activities, and can get a free snack as well offered by the non-profit group Heaven's Windows in our community... A place to escape

by Ally, about 2 months ago
I have loved going to the library since I was a child because I've always been a 'bookworm'. My Mom read constantly so modeled that for my sisters and me and I used it as an escape, a way to learn about other cultures, people, other countries, etc. I also went to the library to study in high school and college. I still go as a working adult, on my lunch break to have a quiet place to sit and it's also a challenge to see which books are available. I also love the Libby app and use it almost... Books by Mail is a lifeline to rural residents

by CVR Author, about 2 months ago

We live an hour's drive away from the closest SD Library branch. We are deeply grateful for the Books by Mail service, through which we receive library materials on a regular basis. We very much appreciate being able to receive books, DVDs, and CDs without driving an hour each way to the library. It is a happy day indeed whenever a blue canvas Books by Mail pouch arrives at our gate.

When occasional logistical issues have arisen, we have been able to resolve them swiftly and easily with the helpful Books by Mail staff (previously Desirae Helms, now Michael Rodriguez).

My father used to walk my sister and I to the library when we were children to give my mother a break in the evenings. That walk was only about a half mile each way, but over that distance we'd have a chance to run around and get out energy before we entered the hushed space. My sister and I spent time reading in the Children's section and my dad would read on the "adult" side of the library for 30-60 minutes before we'd head back home. I had a library card as soon as I started school, and the... Continue reading

    Arabic Books

by Zainab, about 2 months ago

I visit the El Cajon Public Library for its Arabic book collection. Having access to books in my language makes the library a meaningful and supportive place for me. It’s a welcoming space that helps me enjoy reading, and the librarians are wonderful. I’m also planning to visit other libraries around San Diego.

    Peace and Resources

by Mandy, about 2 months ago

Beyond an abundance of books, media, and helping hands - The San Diego County Library System provides free resources, community gatherings for all ages, enrichment activities, learning opportunities, and a safe, peaceful place to land.

When my children were young, the Encinitas Library provided a place to connect with other families, and enjoy engaging story times combined with song and movement. We always left with our bag filled with dozens of books, and a place to play afterwards - the park across the street.

Now that they are older, they use the Solana Beach library for a quiet place to... Continue reading

    Resource for early reading

by Holball22, about 2 months ago
I have only been using the Library app for the last 3 months and it has been very valuable to exposing my 3 year old son to a wide variety of stories and illustrations. Additionally, now I understand that I can add books for easy pick up so as I’m on the go and hear or learn about a book, I can simply get on the app and add it right away. I love this service and I’m so privileged to have it.
