The County of San Diego is using its purchasing power to drive change by aligning how we buy goods and services with our commitment to equity, transparency, and a thriving local economy that benefits all San Diegans. Proposed changes to the County’s procurement policies, going before the San Diego County Board of Supervisors on June 24, 2025. These changes are grounded in the values and priorities shared by our community throughout an extensive public engagement process.

On May 15, 2025, the County held a virtual meeting share how your feedback over the past few weeks has shaped our proposed enhancements to the County’s procurement policies—specifically those aimed at supporting small businesses, minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned businesses, and nonprofits in accessing County contracting opportunities.

On May 7th, the County held virtual Veteran Stakeholder Meeting to discuss and get feedback on proposed enhancements to County procurement policies.

On May 5, 2025, the County held a virtual Nonprofit Focused Stakeholder meeting to discuss and get feedback on proposed enhancements to County procurement policies.

On May 1, 2025, the County held a virtual Small Businesses Focused Stakeholder meeting to discuss and get feedback on proposed enhancements to County procurement policies.

On April 28, 2025, the County hosted an online gather to share about their effort to update our procurement policies and practices and hear feedback. Check out the video here.

On March 12, 2025, the Office of Economic Development and Government Affairs hosted a webinar to provide updates to the County’s contracting and procurement policies for 2025, many of which are being implemented based on feedback provided by partners like you last Fall. These changes aim to strengthen support for local and small businesses, enhance sustainability in procurement practices, and integrate an equity-focused approach into program, procurement, and contract design.

As part of Advancing Throughout the Year, on March 4, 2025, the County of San Diego Department of Purchasing and Contracting presented proposed updates to the County’s contracting and procurement policies for 2025. The changes aim to support local and small businesses, enhance sustainability in procurement practices, and integrate an equity-focused approach into program, procurement, and contract design.

Based on the feedback we heard last fall. The Department of Purchasing and Contracting will recommend policy changes to the Board that will affect how the County buys goods and services.
