San Pasqual Academy

For 25 years the San Pasqual Academy sheltered more than 1,000 foster youth, offering stable long-term placement, an on-site high school, independent living skills preparation, therapeutic services, work readiness training, extra-curricular activities, and social stability.

Within the last decade, federal and state legislation shifted away from the model of educational-based residential programs. Enrollment has also waned due to more foster youth being placed with their relatives, known as kinship care. Now there is an opportunity to re-imagine the academy to provide the greatest benefit to families in the region.

The goal is to make sure the community’s voice is heard and to develop ideas for the Board of Supervisors to consider so this valuable resource can help as many individuals and families as possible, while keeping programs strong and sustainable.
