The most challenging part of using public transportation is usually the "first mile" and "last mile" portions of a trip. The “first mile” often refers to the distance someone travels to reach a transit stop before boarding a bus or train, while the “last mile” may be the distance between the transit stop and their final destination. The first/last mile concept isn't limited to getting people to and from transit stops, it also includes short trips between origin/destination and key locations such as stores, schools, parks, health services, and other community services. Fast and easy first/last mile connections like shared on-demand transportation services, safe places to walk, bike, or roll, make public transportation and car free travel much more appealing, while helping lower greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the County of San Diego's Climate Action Plan's (CAP) goals for cleaner, more sustainable transportation.
For this reason, the County is working on finding ways to improve first/last mile trips for unincorporated County communities.

Share your input as we explore mobility options, such as improved walking connections and better access to transit, in unincorporated communities as part of the County’s Climate Action Plan. This planning effort is funded by a grant from Caltrans and will help identify the types of services or opportunities the County might consider to increase access to transit and/or key locations like schools, parks, etc.
To accommodate different schedules, two meetings will be offered at 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Both meetings will cover the same content and will be recorded.
