We welcome you to Engage!

The Office of Emergency Services (OES) is committed to everyone’s safety before, during, and after a disaster. In collaboration with our service community, OES is exploring ways to better support persons with disabilities or functional needs. Your input will help ensure the unique needs of our whole community are met.

Background: What does the OES do? OES coordinates the regional response to disasters. In this capacity, OES develops plans and procedures for response to and recovery from disasters. And when disaster strikes, OES:

  • Alerts and notifies appropriate agencies

  • Coordinates disaster response

  • Ensures resources are available and mobilized

  • Develops and distributes preparedness materials for the public

To provide the highest level of service to those with disabilities or functional needs, before, during, and after disasters, OES administers the Access & Functional Needs (AFN) Working Group.

What's an access or functional need? Check out our FAQ's tab on the right!

The Working Group is made up of community organizations, service providers, and government agencies that are committed to offering guidance in pursuit of this goal. The Working Group has accomplished a number of highly successful and award-winning projects since its inception in 2011. Over 40 agencies currently participate!

OES and the Working Group would like to hear from the community on how we can better serve persons with disabilities or functional needs.
