Finding Light Between the Book Shelves

The library is where healing began, it was more than books. As a new mother with two kiddos under the age of two, the library became a safe space and a place to breathe. Not only was I learning to be a new mother, I was faced with the unfortunate reality of living with postpartum depression. During this difficult time, the library provided a schedule of activities for my children. From bilingual baby story time to mommy and me yoga, to baby sign language and music time. Even on the days when we missed an activity, my boys and I spent hours choosing books. My boys learned how to choose a book and how to use a library card. We appreciated visiting a new library every chance we had because we appreciated the children’s area, with the awesome toys and beautiful decorations. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for the love and kindness the libraries share with our communities. I thank the libraries for helping me through my healing journey.
