County Board of Supervisors Approves Gun Violence Reduction Work Plan

On February 6, 2024, the County Board of Supervisors approved a work plan designed to reduce gun violence in San Diego County.

The Gun Violence Reduction Work Plan includes 17 actions, to be led by County departments, to reduce gun violence in our region. Work Plan actions address suicide, domestic/intimate partner violence and community violence and cover the spectrum of prevention strategies, from actions designed to stop violence before it starts to services that address immediate and long-term responses to violence. Work Plan actions are scheduled to begin in the coming fiscal year which begins on July 1, 2024.

To support the implementation of the Work Plan, the Board approved a staff position to lead and coordinate County gun violence reduction activities. Activities include establishing and coordinating a community Gun Violence Reduction Advisory Group, applying for violence prevention and intervention grants, and continuing community engagement and collaboration to strengthen and enhance prevention and intervention programs and services.

County staff will return to the board in early 2025 with an initial status update on Work Plan implementation.
