In June 2024, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors directed the development of a Food Justice Community Action Plan (FJCAP) to identify actions the County could take in the near-term to improve food access and reduce food insecurity, as well as increase collaboration between the County and the community.
Key milestones:
- Last year, received over 1,500 comments from community and translated them into 200 unique ideas that resulted in 20 distinct actions the County can take in the near-term to bolster momentum in increasing food security in the region.
- In December 2024, the Board selected 11 actions to analyze for fiscal and implementation feasibility.
- In May 2025, County staff shared out implementation timelines and resource needs for the 11 Board selected actions, along with a listing of key County departments involved.
The County continues to research best practices, collect and analyze available data, and engage with food system stakeholders and communities. On December 12th, 2025, updates for the 11 Board-Selected FJCAP actions were shared, with additional opportunity to hear stakeholder and community ideas and priorities. Thank you to everyone who has participated and provided thoughtful insights along the way.
