Member Application

The County is committed to making the region a healthy place to live, work, and play…a place where the planet and people thrive. With so many shared climate priorities that affect our lives, government is dedicated to continuing purposeful work alongside communities to ensure a socially just, economically beneficial, and ecologically harmonious future for all. 

Desired Qualities of Members 

Members must live in San Diego County and meet at least one of the following criteria to support a diversity of perspectives and experiences in the group: 

  • Residents with lived or learned experience of environmental injustices  

  • Local Tribal members 

  • Youth between the ages of 16-24 

  • Leaders from community-based or Tribal organizations working in health, social, economic, or environmental fields that focus on equity  

  • Academics or researchers with expertise in addressing the underlying causes of health, social, economic, or environmental disparities in communities impacted by unjust systems 

  • Other self-identified characteristics will be considered to strengthen diverse representation particularly for groups often marginalized or under-represented in public participation processes (i.e., people who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, youth, immigrants and refugees, unhoused, low-income, or live in an unincorporated or rural area) 

Participatory Benefits
  • Influence the work of regional governmental agencies by informing climate initiatives  
  • Be a part of a diverse cohort shaping meaningful change, and learn from other perspectives 

  • Get involved with your community and meet people 

  • Participants receive $150/meeting  

  • Resources available to support participation 

  • Professional development opportunities may be available

Expectations of Members 
  • Serve a two- or three-year term  
  • Participate in one orientation and attend up to six Workgroup meetings each year 

  • Contribute perspectives on relevant topics 

  • Gather input and share information from community networks 

  • Collaborate with others to foster inclusivity and belonging
