Member Application

The County is committed to making the region a healthy place to live, work, and play…a place where the planet and people thrive. Many shared climate priorities that affect our lives. We work alongside communities for social equity and ecological harmony for people and the planet.

Participatory Benefits	Influence government climate and equity initiatives. Be a part of a diverse group shaping meaningful change, and learn from other perspectives. Get involved with your community and meet people. Participants receive $150/meeting. Resources available to support participation. Professional development opportunities may be available.
Desired Qualities of Members	Members must live in San Diego County or on Tribal lands within the region. Members need to meet at least one of the following criteria to support a diversity of perspectives and experiences in the group: Residents with lived or learned experience of environmental injustices Local Tribal members Youth between the ages of 16-24 Leaders from community-based or Tribal organizations working in health, social, economic, or environmental fields that focus on equity Academics or researchers with expertise in addressing the underlying causes of health, social, economic, or environmental disparities in communities impacted by unjust systems Other self-identified characteristics will be considered to strengthen diverse representation particularly for groups often marginalized or under-represented in public participation processes (i.e., people who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, youth, immigrants and refugees, unhoused, low-income, or live in an unincorporated or rural area) The County values lived experience, community knowledge, volunteer work, cultural knowledge, and grassroots leadership alongside professional experience. Applicants do not need formal education, technical expertise, or government experience to be considered. We encourage applications from individuals representing historically under-served, disproportionately impacted, and underrepresented communities.
Expectations of Members	Serve a two- or three-year term Take part in an orientation and attend up to ten meetings each year Contribute perspectives on relevant topics Gather input and share information from community networks Participate in workgroup evaluations Collaborate with others to foster inclusivity and belonging
