Civic Engagement Through Boards, Commissions, and Committees

Civic engagement can take many forms. It may look like voting in elections, volunteering in your community, or providing input to help guide government leaders as they make decisions.

At the County of San Diego, community members can advise the Board of Supervisors and staff through advisory groups known as boards, commissions, and committees. These advisory groups provide a bridge between the community and the government of the County.

Boards, commissions, and committees are created because of State and Federal laws, agreements with public or private agencies, or in response to local needs. Each focus on a specific issue, policy, or program. Some are convened for a short period to assist with a specific task. Others serve longer-term standing roles.

The County is seeking ways to promote civic engagement through boards, commissions, and committees. Your input will help inform strategies to reduce process barriers and encourage diverse participation.
